Overview

This is a simply beautiful example of the classically elegant Rolex Oyster ‘Superlative Chronometer’ Perpetual Date from 1967. The solid Stainless Steel case is in very good condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The original Rolex dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is a breathtaking ocean blue. The perfectly straight steel hands and raised steel hour batons are as crisp as the day it was made and provide an awesome contrast against the dial. The original, fully Rolex signed screw down winding crown is working order. This watch features the very high-end, 26 jewel, adjusted to 5 positions automatic movement and has just been fully serviced by my watchmaker. The Oyster is a timeless design classic and manages to both stand out yet retain an air of elegance. The condition of this watch along with the new, high quality, black crocodile skin strap and Rolex after market steel buckle make this a simply stunning piece. I have used a Rolex box from the 1980′s and if you’d like one with the watch please ask at the time of bidding – I include a high quality non-Rolex box as part of the price.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 3 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order. Also, I offer a full refund if you are not entirely happy, as long as the watch is returned within seven days for the UK, twelve days if overseas, in the same condition.

The Case

The highly polished, fully ‘Rolex’ signed solid steel case is in very good condition, with only the most minor wear. The case measures 35mm wide, excluding the rare original Rolex signed winding crown and 41mm, including the lugs. The inside back is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA’, ‘Geneva Switzerland Patented, Stainless Steel’ and has the case reference of ’1500′. The age is confirmed by the marking ‘IV.67′ meaning the watch was made during the 4th quarter of 1967.

The Dial

The original and extremely beautiful Rolex signed dial has been professionally re-finished to the highest standard and is in a breath taking ocean blue. This provides the most stunning contrast with the raised steel hour batons and hands – any marks shown on the pictures are reflections from the lights. It is signed ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date’, ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ and ‘T Swiss T’ The lens, which could easily be original, shows no signs of wear or scratching.

The Movement

The original Rolex signed high-grade 26 jewel automatic movement is in crisp, very clean condition. The movement has just been cleaned and oiled by my professional watchmaker and is in excellent working order. It is signed ‘Twenty Six 26 Jewels’, ‘Adjusted 5 Positions and Temperature Adjusted’, ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Swiss’.

The Strap

I have added a high quality black crocodile skin strap and a steel aftermarket ‘Rolex’ signed buckle to perfectly complement the case.

Rolex Box

I am able to supply authentic Rolex boxes if required. They are from the 1970′s/1980′s  or the latest ‘wave’ design and if you are interested please mention when bidding. Whilst I supply high quality boxes as part of the price the Rolex boxes do help complete the watch and retail at £100 or £50 if bought with a watch.

The Conclusion

This is a beautiful and highly collectible vintage watch from one of horology’s most famous names and will, if history is any judge, provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. To find a watch of this age, in this condition and of this high quality is remarkable; this is just the most stunning watch. I will provide an insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty of photographing this piece, it looks even better in real life. Subject to your location I’ll happily show the watch. I’m happy for this watch to be authenticated if required. Please ring me if you have any questions: Chris 07917 100927
